A head-on collision in Merville at 7:30 a.m. Friday was the third fatal crash Comox Valley RCMP has responded to in the last 10 days.
Both drivers had to be extracted from their vehicles by Courtenay firefighters.
One of the two motorists involved, a 56-year-old Black Creek man, died in hospital following Friday’s crash, said Const. Nicole Hall of Comox Valley RCMP.
The B.C. Coroner’s Service is investigating.
Another crash occurred at 3:37 a.m. on May 10, again in the Merville area. A 29-year-old woman died after her car left the road and collided with a tree.
A Campbell River man died in an early morning crash on May 8 on the Inland Island Highway. The vehicle left the road and the driver, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected.
The passenger in this case was not injured.
