A man suffering an apparent cardiac arrest on a fishing boat off Thrasher Rock, near Gabriola Island, received help Saturday afternoon from three vessels, including two from the Canadian Coast Guard.

“He was given CPR by one of the members on the civilian vessel that reached the fishing vessel first and actually revived him,” said a spokesman for the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Esquimalt.

The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. The man, who was not alone on the boat, was conscious when he was transferred to hospital.
