A Port Alberni man who is accused of shooting a 32-year-old man Tuesday night knew his victim, said Port Alberni RCMP.
“The shooting was not random and the parties were known to one another,” said Jen Allan, RCMP spokeswoman.
A 35-year-old Port Alberni man is in police custody and a 32-year-old from the same community is in a Victoria hospital in serious condition with injuries to his leg, police said.
The shooting was reported to police just after 7 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 3900-block on 10th Avenue.
Specialized units including police dog services, a forensic identification unit, and serious crime unit arrived at the home and the area was cordoned off.
“Members arrived and found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his lower body,” Allan said. Police said the suspect had fled.
“The emergency response team was called to Port Alberni and at approximately 3 a.m. entered a home on Elkford Road in search of the suspect,” Allan said. “The suspect was located and arrested at approximately 5 a.m. at a residence in the Sproat Lake area.”
The home remains blocked off by police tape for investigators and a small detour is in place for local traffic.
The investigation continues.
