Large panes of glass surrounding the Tudor House Liquor Store in Esquimalt were smashed early Sunday in what the store’s management is calling an act of vandalism.
Several of the angled pieces of glass were shattered between 1:15 a.m. and 1:40 a.m., according to a post on the liquor store’s Facebook page. The all-glass store is at the corner of Esquimalt Road and Admirals Road.
The damage was reported to Victoria police and an investigation is underway.
“It appears our shop was vandalized last night, causing great damage to our front entrance windows. We want to ensure the safety of our staff, customers and public before we open our doors,” store managers Bernie and Marta Dumas wrote in the online post. “There is an investigation in course and if you have any information that can help us identify this person, please report it to the Victoria police or Victoria crime stoppers.”
There was no damage to the inside of the building and nothing was stolen.
Victoria police spokesman Const. Matt Rutherford said the damage was “initially thought to be structural, but on further inspection this morning, evidence was located that would suggest it was mischief.”
Police are urging anyone with information about the vandalism to call them.
Management said five panels of glass were broken and the custom-made pieces could take months to replace.
The store is covered by several surveillance cameras and footage has been handed over to police, managers said.
The store was built to replace the Tudor House Pub, which burned down in 2013.
