West Shore RCMP are investigating after a Metchosin barn went up in flames on Thursday morning.
Metchosin volunteer firefighters were called to a barn on Neild Road about 3:30 a.m., said Fire Chief Stephanie Dunlop.
The structure was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived, she said.
Water had to be trucked in because there are no fire hydrants nearby, Dunlop said.
Firefighters from Sooke and Langford were called to assist.
About 15 to 20 firefighters battled the blaze and worked to pour water on propane tanks to keep them from exploding.
The home on the property was not at risk of catching fire, but the homeowner was escorted out as a precaution.
Firefighters had extinguished the fire within three hours.
The investigation has been turned over to West Shore RCMP, who are looking into what caused the fire and whether there is any criminal involvement.
