Marie-Térèse Little topped Kyara Kahakauwila by fewer than 100 votes to with the mayor's race.
Little had 1,015 votes to Kahakauwila's 933.
Both candidates campaigned on preserving Metchosin's rural character.
The departure of eight-term mayor John Ranns left the council members in a two-way race for the top spot. Kahakauwila had Ranns’ endorsement.
Sharie Epp was the lone incumbent in the running for a seat on council. She won re-election and will be joined by Steve Gray, Jay Shukin and Shelly Donaldson.
