Nanaimo RCMP bike-patrol officers found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and about half a kilogram of suspected cocaine packaged in small plastic bags.

A man found with drug scales, drugs including about half a kilogram of suspected cocaine, and just over $1,000 in cash in downtown Nanaimo last month is facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The man was arrested in the Wesley Street area June 27 after Nanaimo RCMP bike-patrol officers found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl and the suspected cocaine packaged in small plastic bags.

Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien said the area has been under “considerable pressure from criminals who take advantage of marginalized individuals struggling with various forms of drug additions.”

Daily bike patrols are being conducted with City of Nanaimo community safety officers, he said in a statement.

The man has since been released from custody.
