Beginning Wednesday, drivers will use a new road alignment at the Johnson Street Bridge.
Traffic will shift to the new roads being constructed north of the current bridge between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The existing bridge will remain open while a new bridge is built.
The City of Victoria had originally said the new road alignment would open on Monday.
Once complete, more than half the new bridge will be dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists via on-road bike lanes, a multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists and a dedicated pedestrian pathway.
There will be three lanes for vehicles but no rail access.
Three new plazas with a view of the harbour are planned along with a new waterfront park as a result of the bridge project.
