No one was injured in a fire at a home on Taylor Road in Metchosin, near Taylor Beach, on Tuesday morning.

The lone resident at the home was in the yard when the fire was reported about 6:50 a.m., said Metchosin Fire Chief Stephanie Dunlop.

The Metchosin Fire Department was on scene within five minutes and was joined by mutual-aid partners from Sooke, East Sooke and Otter Point.

Thick smoke rose up from the home as firefighters fought the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Dunlop said.

She said it didn’t look like the house was habitable after the fire.
