North Park boarding house damaged by fire

The Victoria Fire Department was called about 8:50 a.m. Thursday and arrived to find the front porch of the Princess Avenue home engulfed in flames.

No one was injured Thursday morning when a fire damaged a boarding house at 1040 Princess Ave. owned by B.C. Housing and run by Island Health.

Occupants of the home near the Crystal Pool were alerted to the fire by a passerby who also called 911.

The Victoria Fire Department was called about 8:50 a.m. and arrived to find the front porch fully engulfed in flames.

“We hit it from the outside,” said Platoon Capt. Kevin Debruin. “Knocked it down and made an interior attack from there.

“We were able to knock down the fire and control it fairly quickly.”

There were 17 firefighters at the scene, he said.
