About 250 people gathered at the legislature Monday for a demonstration against old-growth logging, with some dressed in tree costumes, with sprigs of greenery hanging from their clothes.

About 250 people gathered at the legislature Monday for a demonstration against old-growth logging, with some dressed in tree costumes, with sprigs of greenery hanging from their clothes.

Speeches included references to Fairy Creek, near Port Renfrew, where efforts to curtail old-growth logging by blocking logging roads began in August 2020 and have resulted in hundreds of arrests.

Erin Renwick of Parents 4 Climate told the crowd that she and many others joined the fight against old-growth logging for their children’s future. She said an old-growth logging deferral announced by the province for some areas should be replaced by an order of protection.
