One man died and another was injured in a head-on crash in the 3700-block of Sooke Road, just west of Humpback Road in Metchosin late Saturday.
West Shore RCMP said a Mazda 3 headed east crossed the centre line and collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck about 11:30 p.m.
The 53-year-old driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 39-year-old F-150 driver was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extracted by the Metchosin Fire Department.
He was transported to hospital by ambulance with injuries described by police as non-life threatening.
“Traffic had to be diverted at the time for several hours to allow collection of evidence and determining the leading causes of the collision,” said West Shore RCMP Const. Alex Berubé.
A B.C. Highway Patrol traffic analyst and the B.C. Coroners Service are assisting with the investigation.
West Shore RCMP ask anyone with information on the crash to call them at 250-474-2264.
