LANGLEY — One person has died and three others were critically injured after a fire at a Langley  apartment complex for senior citizens on Wednesday.
Emergency crews put out the blaze in the four-storey complex of the Langley Lions Senior Citizen Housing Society. The fire is believed to have started in a second-floor suite.
Residents from the complex, which has more than 100 units, were evacuated.
Langley Mayor Peter Fassbender said a person’s body was found in a hall.
Nine residents were sent to hospital — three in critical condition — and at least one patient has since died.
Residents made their way from the Elm building, scene of the fire, to the neighbouring Evergreen. A number of seniors homes are in the area.
It’s unclear what started the fire and the incident is still under investigation.
