Overnight parking at the beach has been restricted as part of efforts to keep a lid on activities like beach fires, vandalism and drinking.
Under the pilot, 10 parking stalls along Homathko Road will be made available for overnight parking.
People wanting to use the spots will have to buy permits in advance at the Central Saanich municipal hall at a cost of $10 per night.
“It [the pilot] is only going to go to the end of this year and then they’re going to evaluate it and see whether or not they should continue, modify or stop it in 2014,” Coun. Zeb King said.“But it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not 10 spaces are going to be used. I hope they are and it’s probably a good location for launching kayaks.”
Vehicles parked in the spot that are not displaying permits will be towed.
