Repaving on the Malahat summit is set to start this weekend and continue in the evenings and overnight from Sundays to Thursdays until mid-October.

Resurfacing work on the 5.5-kilometre stretch of Highway 1 from the Malahat summit viewpoint to Bamberton, as far north as Mill Bay Road, will take place evenings and overnight from 8 p.m. on Sundays until 5 a.m. on Thursdays, the Transportation Ministry said.

During repaving of narrower areas, single-lane-alternating traffic will be in effect from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., said the ministry, which warned drivers to expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

“To minimize disruption, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra time when possible, or travel outside of the construction times.”
