Parksville’s hugely popular Lions Ventureland Playground, just up from the beach, has a new centrepiece for all ages to enjoy.

Harbour Town features a pirate ship, six new slides, a spinner and climbing structures. It measures 18 metres by 18 metres, and has ramps and hexagonal platforms designed to encourage inclusive and inter-generational play. It was designed to be accessible to users of all abilities, the city of Parksville said in a statement.

The playground features a ship and dock theme to fit in with the existing playground’s marine-seashell theme.

Harbour Town was built after the province’s tourism dependent communities fund provided $315,000 for playground upgrades last year.

Parksville’s 39-acre community park was established in 1963.

The playground opened in 1985 and has been updated a number of times. A May to September splash park was added in 2018 and is adjacent to the playground.
