Pedestrian sent to hospital after being hit by transit bus on West Saanich Road

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene just south of McTavish Road, B.C. Transit said.

A pedestrian was taken to hospital after being struck by a B.C. Transit bus in North Saanich on Wednesday.

B.C. Transit said the incident happened amid snowy conditions in the 8700-block of West Saanich Road in North Saanich, but provided no details.

Calls to Sidney/North Saanich RCMP were not immediately returned.

A spokesman at North Saanich Fire said a pedestrian was struck when the transit bus lost traction. He said the pedestrian suffered undetermined injuries and was in stable condition at the scene before being transported to hospital.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident, but as this is an ongoing investigation, we are not at liberty to discuss this matter further,” B.C. Transit said in a statement.

The statement added that emergency services responded quickly to the scene just south of McTavish Road.

“Safety is our top priority … and we will assist the police in their investigation into the incident and will be conducting an internal investigation.”
