A redevelopment on the site of Sidney’s Cedarwood Inn and Suites is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Sidney council has given three readings to a bylaw amendment for the proposed waterfront development that envisions 49 apartments and 48 townhouse units on the motel site.
GMC Projects has proposed a three-storey building with 49 apartment units and a ground-floor commercial space as well as eight buildings containing a total of 48 2.5-storey townhouses at 9522 Lochside Dr., near Tulista Park.
The apartment building would have 18 one-bedroom units, 17 two-bedroom units and 14 three-bedroom units. Forty of the townhouses would have three bedrooms and eight would have two.
The project has been scaled back to 97 homes and three storeys from five storeys and 140 homes in response to community feedback.
The development will go to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for review, because Lochside Drive is a provincial road, and is expected to return to council for possible adoption on March 25.
