An open house is planned next week to collect input on plans for a new Cedar Hill Middle School to replace the existing building, which was built in 1931.
The event is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the school’s gymnasium.
The province announced last July that it was putting $42.9 million into a replacement school, with the Greater Victoria School District providing $3.6 million.
The school, which has had several additions — the most recent in 1975 — is one of the oldest in the district.
Construction is set to begin this fall and be complete in January 2025, with space for 575 students. A neighbourhood learning centre will be part of the project, and could be used for child care and cultural activities.
The open house will collect feedback on site plans, options for pick-up and drop-off points, bike access and amenities.
“Our board is really excited about this project and we want the community to feel involved at the early stages of planning,” said Greater Victoria School Board chairman Ryan Painter in a statement. “We will continue to engage with the community throughout this process, in efforts to build an inclusive and welcoming school that will benefit all of our students and staff for years to come.”
The upcoming open house follows a virtual gathering last fall. A third open house will be held this spring.
