A large pleasure craft caught fire and sank at the Port Sidney Marina on Saturday.
Sidney volunteer firefighters arrived about 2:45 p.m., said Deputy Fire Chief Mike Harman.
“First units on scene were met with a fully involved boat fire and were able to contain the main damage from the fire just to the one boat,” Harman said.
No one was on the boat at the time and there were no injuries.
The craft ended up sinking.
A second boat had some damage from the heat, Harman said.
Dense black smoke from the fire could be seen across Sidney.
Harman said there were no real problems attacking the fire.
“Obviously, the wind played a bit of a role … but we got water on it” right away, he said.
“We had two big pumps deployed with the first crews that went down to the dock, so we got water on it pretty quick.”
No estimate of damage was available and the fire’s cause is unknown.
