Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a report of a person acting inappropriately at a city recreation facility.

The report was made Feb. 4 about an incident in a women’s change room at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. Police were told by a young child’s parents that an adult was staring intently at the child while they were getting changed.

“The incident is being investigated and to date, the person seen in the washroom has not been identified,” said Reserve Const. Gary O’Brien. “The details of this incident may constitute voyeurism as defined by the Criminal Code and as such, our investigators have initiated a criminal investigation.”

The person was described as wearing a brown wig, tight jeans, a dark zip-up hoodie and an oversized medical mask.

Staff members at the centre are assisting with the investigation and have provided access to CCTV video footage from the foyer.

Nanaimo RCMP ask anyone with information on the incident to call them at 250-754-2345.
