Oceanside RCMP are investigating a fatal head-on collision in Qualicum Beach on Thursday.
First responders were called about 3:15 p.m. to a collision on Rupert Road between a pickup driven by a 52-year-old Coombs man and an SUV driven by a 35-year-old Parksville man.
The Coombs man was dead at the scene while the Parksville man was airlifted to hospital. He was later determined to be in stable condition.
Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
The initial investigation suggests that the SUV suddenly left the lane, police said.
Police talked to witnesses at the scene and said they would like to hear from anyone else with information. Oceanside RCMP can be reached at 250-248-6111.
