A Murray Street home police say is well-known for drugs, crime and “social disorder” was searched Monday by Nanaimo RCMP and the RCMP Emergency Response Team.

The ERT is used in situations where investigators believe there is a strong possibility of firearms being present and if the individuals involved are known to be violent, said Const. Gary O’Brien.

The search was done to preserve evidence thought to be linked to a stabbing on Saturday at an apartment on Albert Street, where two masked suspects allegedly broke in and stabbed a man multiple times.

Paramedics were called and took the man to hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.

Police arrested one of the stabbing suspects on Saturday after carrying out surveillance at a residence.

Jordan White, 26, was formally charged on Sunday with aggravated assault, breaking-and-entering and disguise with intent. He remains in custody.

Police said neighbours of the Murray Street residence have had to endure noise, disturbances at all hours and countless police visits.

The city is considering declaring the home a nuisance property, which would allow the city to impose fines when officials are called in to deal with problems. “The search warrant carried out [Monday] will certainly add more substance to our recommendation that it be declared a nuisance,” O’Brien said.

The search, conducted at about 10:15 a.m., led to 11 people being detained. All were later released without charges.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
