The early-morning break-in and arson fire Oct. 9 at Pender Island’s Home Hardware store caused about $10,000 in damage, Outer Gulf Islands RCMP say

Outer Gulf Islands RCMP are looking for a suspect in a break-and-enter and arson on North Pender Island.

Police were called just before 5 a.m. Oct. 9 to assist Pender Fire Rescue at the island’s Home Hardware store, where there had been a break-in and an arson fire in the lumber-storage area.

A person was captured on surveillance video committing the break-in and starting the fire.

About $10,000 in damage was caused.

The Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Service assisted in the investigation.

Police determined that the suspect boarded a ferry from Swartz Bay to Pender Island about 6:30 or 7 p.m. on Oct. 8. She is described as white with short brown hair and was wearing a white sweater and long black pants, and had a black backpack.
