The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a woman fell to her death from the balcony of a Victoria hotel.
Victoria police responded to a 911 call around 11:20 a.m. Nov. 3 reporting that a woman had climbed over a balcony railing on the ninth floor of a hotel in the 500-block of Oswego Street.
About 15 minutes later, the woman reportedly fell to the ground and was pronounced dead, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. said.
The IIO has opened an investigation to confirm what happened in the period leading to the woman’s death and what role, if any, officers played.
As an independent civilian oversight agency of the police, the IIO investigates all incidents involving officers that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there are allegations of wrongdoing.
