Police watchdog probes arrest after traffic stop in Cobble Hill

A North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Shawnigan Lake and Mile End roads where the driver reportedly did not obey directions and was taken into custody. She later said she was seriously injured during the arrest.

The police watchdog is looking into an incident where a driver claimed she was injured during an arrest after a traffic stop in Cobble Hill.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is probing the arrest, which occurred Feb. 11 in the area of Shawnigan Lake and Mile End roads. The civilian-oversight agency investigates police-related incidents resulting in serious harm or death.

In this case, an officer conducted a traffic stop where the driver reportedly did not obey directions and was taken into custody. She was transported to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment.

On Feb. 16, she told police that she had sustained a serious but non-life-threatening injury during the arrest. The IIO investigation began the same day.
