PORT ALBERNI — Fire crews were called to the Western Forest Products sawmill in Port Alberni about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, as a fire burned in the Alberni Pacific Division mill on Harbour Road. A crowd of workers stood outside the evacuated building, watching smoke emerge. No injuries were reported.
By 5:25 p.m., B.C. Hydro was ordered by the Port Alberni Fire Department to cut power from the facility as firefighters hosed down the smoking structure.
The mill is expected to be shut down for two days.
