Another Island emergency health-care centre is temporarily reducing hours due to a limited availability of doctors.
The Port Hardy Hospital Emergency Department was closed overnight Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and will be closed the same hours until Tuesday, Oct. 11, says Island Health. All other inpatient services will continue as normal.
The emergency department will be open each day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Island Health says anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or go to the Port McNeill Hospital’s emergency department.
The Port Hardy emergency centre was also closed Oct. 4-5 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. due to limited staff.
Unplanned rotating closures at Port McNeill and Port Hardy emergency departments began in the spring and have become more frequent in the months since.
On Saturday, Island Health announced that Campbell River’s outpatient lab will have a temporary ban on walk-in patients for the day.
Located at the North Island Hospital, the lab will take emergency sample collections and drop off during normal hours from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will resume walk-in operations on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
