A proposed six-storey rental building near Quadra Village is headed to a public hearing.
A three-storey, 15-unit apartment building at the corner of Kings Road and Fifth Street would be demolished to make way for the new building, which would have 56 units that remain rentals for 60 years or the life of the building, whichever is longer.
Under a housing agreement, 10 per cent of the units — three one-bedrooms, one two-bedroom and two three-bedrooms — would have to be affordable to people with median income households or lower.
The project would include 70 bicycle stalls, including eight large enough for cargo bikes and outlets to charge electric bikes, and car-share memberships for residents.
It would also include 20 vehicle parking stalls.
In moving the project to a public hearing, some councillors expressed concerns about displacing current tenants, some of whom have lived in the building for many years.
