A Qualicum man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday incident that saw a pickup truck driven through the Tseshaht First Nation while its occupants yelled racist comments and threw debris.
Part of the incident was captured on video that was posted to social media and drew considerable attention.
Port Alberni RCMP said the man showed up at the detachment, where he was taken into custody.
He has been co-operating with the investigation, police said.
The man has now been released on conditions that include not going to Tseshaht land. No court date has been set.
“This type of behaviour is reprehensible and repulsive,” said Sgt. Peter Dionne, operations officer for the Port Alberni RCMP.
“Luckily, no one was hurt physically by this person’s actions and the witnesses had the wherewithal to record the incident and forward it to police for the investigation.”
