Missing Ladysmith teen found after RCMP issue plea for information

One day after issuing a public plea for help finding her, police said the search for the girl had "come to a successful end."

A missing 13-year-old from Ladysmith has been located and is safe, police say.

RCMP investigators issued a public plea on Thursday for information about the whereabouts of the girl.

The teen, who was living on a sailboat with her father, was reported missing on March 17 after Ladysmith RCMP were asked by the Ministry of Children and Family Development to check on her well-being, but couldn’t find her.

Police believed she was with someone known to her father.

On Friday morning, police issued a statement saying the search had “come to a successful end.” They did not provide any details about where or how she was found, citing the family’s privacy.

The ministry had a court order directing the girl’s father, who has sole custody of her, to disclose her location but he refused. He was arrested for breaching the court order and released from custody after a bail hearing on March 18.

He was arrested again on March 23 for failing to disclose her location to ministry workers and remains in custody.
