With Coastal Renaissance out for repair, four regular sailings from Nanaimo’s Duke Point to Tsawwassen will be suspended until after the Labour Day weekend.
B.C. Ferries will not run the 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. sailings departing from Nanaimo’s Duke Point and the corresponding return sailings from Tsawwassen at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., except on Tuesdays and Wednesday.
Queen of Coquitlam, which usually provides service between Nanaimo’s Departure Bay, West Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay, and the Sunshine Coast, will fill in a relief vessel on Tuesdays and Wednesday until Aug. 30.
Queen of Alberni and Coastal Inspiration will still provide the majority of service between Duke Point and Tsawwassen while Coastal Renaissance is being fixed.
B.C. Ferries said it does not have a service-return date for Coastal Renaissance as they have yet to identify the precise nature of the repairs needed.
Coastal Renaissance was removed from service Thursday due to drive motor issues.
Built in 2007, Coastal Renaissance is part of the Coastal-class ferries.
B.C. Ferries CEO Nicolas Jimenz said at a press conference Friday that it will not be a simple repair.
Experts from the original drive motor manufacturer, Finland-based Wärtsilä/VEM, will inspect the engine along with B.C. Ferries staff when the 31.5-tonne motor is hauled out of the vessel.
