Reservations open Tuesday for Island's national parks

And for the first time, prospective campers will be able to check photos, maps and the availability of their chosen campsites.

Other changes include making Sidney Spit’s 27 campsites available for reservations and extending the reservation window for the 75-kilometre West Coast Trail.

As of April 17, hikers will be able to make reservations for the West Coast Trail for the entire season. Previously, reservations were accepted only up to three months in advance.

At Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, visitors are encouraged to make early reservations for the popular Green Point Campground near Long Beach. Several walk-in campsites will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Gulf Island National Park Reserve will continue to offer campsite reservations at its drive-in campgrounds: Pender Island’s Prior Centennial Campground and McDonald Campground in North Saanich.

Boat-in and hike-in campsites continue to be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Saturna, Cabbage, Prevost, Portland, Isle-de-Lis and D’Arcy islands, as well as Pender Island’s Beaumont.
