Road closures and routes for Tour de Victoria bike event

More than 2,000 will cyclists hit the road for Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria on Saturday.

Be prepared for minor traffic delays across the region today as 2,450 cyclists from across Canada and the U.S. join locals for Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria, the city’s largest one-day cycling event.

There is a staggered start, with the first group of riders heading out at 7 a.m., followed by groups at 8, 9 and 11:30 a.m. A children’s ride takes place at 1 p.m.

The route affects some roads at different times. Police, certified traffic-control attendants and course marshals will monitor traffic flow along the route.

The last cyclists should be across the finish line by about 3 p.m.

Closures include:

Area around the start/finish of the event:

• Belleville Street between Government Street and Menzies Street — closed 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Belleville Street from Hotel Grand Pacific to Menzies Street and up to Quebec Street — closed 4 a.m to 5:30 p.m.

• Belleville Street between Oswego Street and Hotel Grand Pacific — closed 8 a.m. to 4:20 p.m.

• Pendray Street between Belleville and Quebec streets — closed 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

• Government Street between Superior and Humboldt streets — closed 6 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.

Road closures include:

Victoria

• Belleville Street, Government Street, Wharf Street, Johnson Street bridge, Harbour Road — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel from 6:50 to 7:20 a.m., 7:50 to 8:20 a.m. and 8:50 to 9:20 a.m.

 

Esquimalt

• Tyee Road, Skinner Street and Craigflower Road — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel from 6:55 to 7:25 a.m., 7:25 to 8:25 a.m. and 8:55 to 9:35 a.m.

View Royal

• Island Highway — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel 7:05 to 7:35 a.m., 8:05 to 8:35 a.m. and 9:05 to 9:50 a.m.

Colwood

• Island Highway, Ocean Boulevard, Lagoon Road and Metchosin Road — Two-way traffic 7:15 to 8:05 a.m.

Metchosin

• Metchosin Road, Duke Road, William Head Road, Lombard Drive, Rocky Point Road, East Sooke Road, Kangaroo Road, Liberty Drive, Lindholm Road and Happy Valley Road — two-way traffic 7:25 to 9:30 a.m.

Sooke

• Rocky Point Road, East Sooke Road and Gillespie Road — two-way traffic 7:40 to 8:50 a.m.

Langford

• Happy Valley Road, Glen Lake Road, Langford Parkway, Leigh Road, Dunford Avenue, Jacklin Road, Goldstream Avenue and Atkins Avenue — two-way traffic 7:55 to 9:55 a.m.

View Royal

• Atkins Avenue and Burnside Road West — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel from 8:15 to 10:05 a.m.

Saanich

• Burnside Road West, Prospect Lake Road and Munn Road — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel from 8:15 to 10:10 a.m.

Highlands

• Munn Road, Willis Point Road — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel 8:25 to to 10:50 a.m.

• Millstream Lake Road, Ross Durrance Road — northbound vehicle traffic only from 8:35 to 11 a.m.

Saanich

• Wallace Drive — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel 8:50 to 11:10 a.m.

• Old West Saanich Road, Prospect Lake Road, Burnside Road, Charlton Road, Granville Avenue, Hastings Road, North Road, Doyle Road, Elkwood Road, Oldfield Road, Brookleigh Road, Ash Road, Grandview Drive, Ferndale Road, Gordon Head Road, Arbutus Road, Telegraph Bay Road and Cadboro Bay Road — Vehicle traffic will be permitted in the direction opposite cyclist travel 9:10 to 2:20 p.m.

• Queenswood Drive 10:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. — southbound vehicle traffic only

• Willis Point Road 8:50 a.m. to 11:10 a.m. — two way traffic

Central Saanich

• Wallace Drive, Garden Gate Drive, Benvenuto Road and West Saanich Road and Old West Saanich Road — two-way traffic 8:55 to 11:25 a.m.

Saanich

• West Saanich Road, Interurban Road, Quayle Road, Beaver Lake Road, Hamsterley Road, Sayward Road, Alderley Road, Santa Carla Avenue, Claremont Avenue, Wesley Road, Sea Ridge Drive, Stormtide Way, Seapearl Place, Lochside Drive and Royal Oak Drive — two-way traffic 9:10 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.

Oak Bay

• Beach Drive, King George Terrace — full closures (residents permitted access in breaks of cyclists) 10:10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Victoria

• Crescent Road, Hollywood Crescent, Dallas Road and waterfront perimeter of James Bay including: Erie Street, St. Lawrence, Kingston Street, Montreal Street, Quebec Street, Pendray Street and Belleville Street — full closures (residents permitted access in breaks of cyclists) 10:25 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
