Parents at Rogers Elementary School are raising funds for the family of a woman who died Wednesday morning after suffering a medical emergency and crashing into a house near the school.
The school’s parent advisory council has created an online fundraiser to support the family of Corrina McDonald, described as “a cherished member of our school community and a loving mother to two of our students.”
Funds raised will help cover immediate and ongoing expenses for the family, the fundraiser said.
The Rogers community is “deeply saddened” by the loss of McDonald and the impact on her family, said Camille Brillon, secretary for the Rogers parent advisory council.
“We are a caring and strong school community who work together to support each other, our children, and staff,” she said in a statement.
The fundraiser had collected more than $2,500 by Saturday morning.
Neighbours on Rogers Avenue said they heard a thud Wednesday morning and children calling for help, before sirens filled the residential street.
Police said they responded to the incident around 8:45 a.m. and determined the driver experienced a significant medical event that caused the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
