The Saanich School District says schools will remain closed today, as bargaining between the district and the union representing support workers continues into the start of a second week of the strike.

Roughly 500 support workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 441 formed picket lines outside schools in the district starting Oct. 28. The union is seeking wage parity with neighbouring districts.

The district said in a statement posted to their website Sunday afternoon that both parties continue to negotiate to reach an agreement.

They say they were announcing the continued closures of schools Sunday afternoon to give families as much notice as possible to prepare.

Updates will be posted to the district’s website as they come at sd63.bc.ca.
