A commemorative service to honour Queen Elizabeth II will be held at Victoria’s Christ Church Cathedral at 11 a.m. on Monday, the National Day of Mourning.

Before the ceremony, a procession, including Lt. Gov. Janet Austin, Premier John Horgan, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and other dignitaries, will leave the B.C. Parliament Buildings and walk to Christ Church Cathedral. A 21-gun salute will be fired.

The church service will be led by Rev. Ansley Tucker. It will be livestreamed, beginning at 11 a.m., at christchurch cathedral.bc.ca/live

Public seating inside Christ Church Cathedral will be limited.

Further details about the procession and the commemorative service will be announced once they are finalized.

People will be able to sign condolence books at the Parliament buildings, Government House until the day after the Queen’s funeral.

The condolence books will be kept in the national and provincial archives in perpetuity.

The Queen was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations around the world, including several in Canada.

In lieu of flowers, Canadians are encouraged to donate to or volunteer with a charity of their choice.

The Town of Sidney will hold a service of remembrance at 10:30 am on Monday at the Beacon Park Bandshell.

“Few of us can remember a time when the Queen was not a steady presence in our lives and the lives of millions around the world, exemplary in what it means to live a life devoted to service,” said Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith.

“I know from speaking with community members that her death has been deeply felt.

“This ceremony is an opportunity for us to grieve Her Majesty’s passing together and recognize the Queen’s 70 years of service.”

The ceremony will include a colour parade, a town crier proclamation, a moment of silence and music. All are welcome to attend. Those interested in laying flowers or a wreath can do so at the Cenotaph outside the town hall on Sidney Avenue.
