On the heels of two shootings in the Comox Valley on June 9 and 10, the local RCMP detachment had a visit from the gang-enforcement team from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C.

The team spent four days in the area and investigated many vehicles and people — most of them linked to the street-level drug trade. During that time, a machete, knives, a rifle, a smoke grenade, three replica firearms, drugs and cellphones were seized.

“The attendance of these additional police officers was noticed by the general public and by those involved in criminal activity,” Staff Sgt. Glen Breckon of the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit said in a statement. “We are sending a strong message that violence will not be tolerated in this community.”
