There will be something for everybody’s Christmas shopping list Sunday at the one-day Sidney Outdoor Christmas Market at Mary Winspear Centre.
The new outdoor market, patterned after traditional European Christmas-season markets, will take place rain or shine, with close to 70 local vendors and businesses offering everything from jewellery to art, pet products, designer products, gluten-free food products, gourmet goodies, jams, bath and beauty products, children’s clothing, and import and direct sales.
Laurie McDermid of Westcoast Impressions, who is organizing the event, said amid pandemic-related uncertainties around indoor markets, it was decided to go with an outdoor event, for both the vendors who rely on the Christmas season for revenue, and customers who want to support local entrepreneurs. “We feel people will truly enjoy an outdoor market and it will bring an exciting, festive, new atmosphere to the start of the holiday season.”
She notes that although outdoor markets are not subject to the same rigid COVID restrictions, the market will still implement COVID safety precautions.
A warming tent will feature Karen Hough on the French horn. Adults and children alike will be entertained by Mike Dada, the balloon artist, with his Balloon Dog act, which includes physical comedy, stand up, and pop culture.
Free admission. The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the large parking area of the Mary Winspear Centre, 2243 Beacon Ave., Sidney. For more information, go to sidneystreetmarket.com.
