A sinkhole on Highway 19 in Lantzville closed lanes in both directions on Thursday afternoon.
The sinkhole was at Superior Road, about four kilometres north of Nanaimo, according to Drive B.C.
Janelle Staite, South Coast region representative for the Ministry of Transportation, said the sinkhole was about the size of a vehicle and a detour was in effect through local roads in Lantzville and through the Snaw-Naw-As First Nation.
There was no estimated opening time as of Thursday afternoon, Staite said during a ministry update on the provincial state of emergency.
