A male riding a skateboard was seriously injured Thursday when he was struck by a car while in a crosswalk.
The skateboarder was crossing the northbound on-ramp at McKenzie Avenue and the Patricia Bay Highway about 5:30 p.m. when an eastbound car turned right onto the ramp and struck him.
The skateboarder sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital in serious condition, said Staff Sgt. Stephanie Edwards in a statement. His next of kin have been notified, she said.
Traffic in the area was rerouted for several hours.
The collision remains under investigation.
