Crystal Pool was evacuated Monday afternoon after a fire broke out in a sauna.
A patron alerted a staff member to heavy smoke in the sauna around 3:35 p.m., said Thomas Soulliere, director of parks and recreation facilities for the City of Victoria.
The staff member used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire coming from the sauna’s electrical outlet. The building was evacuated.
Six fire trucks and 18 firefighters from Victoria Fire arrived at 2275 Quadra St. and worked to clear the smoke.
Soulliere said there was no major damage to the sauna. The recreational centre was reopened just before 5 p.m.
A fire inspector is investigating the cause of the fire.
