The Capital Regional District is asking Sooke residents to reduce discretionary water use until a break in the water-supply main there is repaired.

The break was discovered about 6 a.m. Friday in Sooke Potholes Regional Park, north of the water-treatment plant.

The water main leads to the Sooke River Road disinfection facility, which serves about 13,000 people in Sooke, East Sooke, parts of the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area and the T’Sou-ke First Nation.

Crews are at the site of the break making repairs.

The CRD said reducing water use should include five-minute showers, no watering of lawns, no washing of outdoor surfaces like driveways or decks and turning off the tap while brushing teeth or shaving.

It said updates will be provided as details are confirmed, or if residents need to take additional action, at crd.bc.ca/about/alerts-notices or @crd_bc.
