The Greater Victoria School District continues to gather public feedback into the proposed sale of about three hectares of land for a new school to serve the francophone community.
The land would come out of the 10-hectare site of Lansdowne Middle School, and would be purchased by the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Columbie-Britannique — the province’s French-language school board — for $15 million.
At present, the French-language board is operating the 86-student École Beausoleil at the former Sundance Elementary on Bank Street on a lease from the Greater Victoria School District. But the school district plans to return to the building and re-establish an elementary school because of demand in the area, leaving École Beausoleil without a long-term home.
For the time being, École Beausoleil will relocate to a new 12-unit modular school being built on the grounds of Braefoot Elementary. École Beausoleil’s students are currently in kindergarten to Grade 3, with Grade 4 students to be added in September and Grade 5 and 6 to be added in 2022 and 2023.
The Greater Victoria School District held a public-information session on the land-sale proposal on April 28.

Feedback will be considered at the Greater Victoria School Board’s June 21 meeting.
