Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for Greater Victoria and much of Vancouver Island, warning of strong winds of up to 110 kilometres an hour on Monday night and Tuesday.
The weather system is expected to generate strong southeast winds over the west coast of Vancouver Island, the Central Coast and Haida Gwaii beginning Monday evening. Inner south coast waters will fare better, with winds of up to 80 km/h.
In Greater Victoria, winds of 70 km/h are expected, with gusts up to 90 km/h.
The weather system is forecast to remain very intense on Tuesday, with blustery conditions expected to continue.
Environment Canada advises that the exact track and strength of the weather system is still uncertain, with any changes likely to affect the timing and strength of the winds.
On Saturday, Environment Canada briefly issued a tornado watch for Metro Vancouver and the North Shore.
Videos posted to social media showed a significant water spout near Vancouver International Airport and winds swirling and tossing debris at University Golf Club near the University of British Columbia.
