The death of a woman whose body was found in Beacon Hill Park last week is now being called a homicide.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is now in charge of the investigation and is seeking witnesses and additional information.
Victoria police were called to the south side of Beacon Hill Park shortly after 6 a.m. March 3 after an unresponsive woman was found near Dallas Road. Police and B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics responded.
Despite receiving CPR, the woman was pronounced dead. The B.C. Coroners Service also assisted with the investigation.
Early this week, the major crime unit determined the woman had been killed. The major crime unit was notified and took over the investigation.
Police have not identified the victim. A single bouquet of yellow roses was left on Dallas Road where the body was found.
The homicide is not believed to be related to a van fire that killed a man March 4 in Beacon Hill Park.
