A 39-year-old Saanich resident was arrested after a two-month investigation into lumber theft from business and construction sites across Colwood.
In a news release issued Wednesday, West Shore RCMP said they began the investigation in February. More than $10,000 in lumber was reported stolen prior to the arrest, police said.
“A lot of great work was done by our team throughout this investigation, which ultimately resulted in an arrest,” said West Shore RCMP Cpl. Fred Ritchie. “It’s a good feeling to be able to return stolen property to its rightful owners and to deter others from taking advantage of these construction sites.”
Police made the arrest May 17 after finding and seizing lumber from the suspect’s residence. The suspect’s vehicle was also seized and police are seeking its forfeiture.
