VicPD said the suspect is relatively new to the city, but has had 44 "police contacts" this year.

A man arrested by Victoria police 12 times so far this year was taken into custody again early Monday in connection with a break-in at a residential building in Vic West.

The man also allegedly set off the fire alarm as police officers and a canine unit searched the building.

VicPD said the suspect is relatively new to the city, but has had 44 “police contacts” and a dozen arrests so far this year. He faces outstanding charges for multiple break and enters, as well as car theft, uttering threats, indecent exposure and sexual assault.

Police were called to a residential development on Saghalie Road at about 5:15 a.m. Monday after security reported a break and enter.

When police arrived, the suspect fled deeper into the building and a canine unit and additional officers were called in. As they searched, VicPD said the suspect set off the fire alarm, which resulted in the Victoria Fire Department also attending the scene.

Officers found the suspect and took him into custody. Several items believed to be stolen were located and the search revealed damage to doors and windows, police said.

The suspect was taken to VicPD cells, where he is being held for a court appearance.

Anyone with information about the incident who has yet to speak with an officer is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
