West Shore RCMP ended up arresting two suspected impaired drivers within an hour of each other after the second one hit a tow truck that was towing the other one’s vehicle.

It began just after 11 p.m. Feb. 25 when police received a report of a possible impaired driver in the 1700-block of the Island Highway in View Royal. Police were given a vehicle description and a licence place number and found the vehicle a short time later on Wishart Road in Colwood.

They gave a 29-year-old man an immediate roadside suspension and called a tow truck to take his vehicle for impoundment.

While the vehicle was being towed away, however, a second driver ran into the tow truck’s driver-side door in the 600-block of Latoria Road.

Police responded immediately and arrested a 17-year-old with a learner’s licence. The driver has a date in adult court in June.

No one was injured.

“West Shore RCMP remains dedicated in our continuous effort toward removing impaired drivers from our roads,” said Const. Meghan Groulx. “Do not hesitate to call the West Shore RCMP if you suspect an impaired driver.”
