Three people are in hospital with serious injuries after a pickup truck rammed the front porch of a house in Port Alberni early Saturday.
When police arrived at the home at 2804 Sixth St., one man was pinned under the vehicle, and a man and a woman were lying on the ground, said Port Alberni RCMP Const. Brad Essex. All were severely injured, he said.
“The fire department managed to get the man out from under the truck, and they were all taken to hospital,” Essex said. “One female, who had the most serious injuries, was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital.”
The 42-year-old woman is believed to have suffered two broken legs, two broken hips, a broken pelvis and a punctured lung.
The men, both in their 20s, are believed to have broken legs.
Essex said the incident appears to have stemmed from an altercation between the driver of the truck and the two men.
“He seems to have come back with a truck and run them over,” he said.
The driver fled the scene, but was tracked down by a police dog.
Two people were initially taken into custody, but one was released without charges as it appears he was not in the vehicle, Essex said.
Travis Foord, 19, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
Foord, originally from Port Alberni and now living in Kamloops, will appear in court in Port Alberni on May 2.
